Blog and Podcast Recomendation

I stumbled across this great podcast, PediaCast. The podcast is run by a Pediatrician, Mike, who discusses issues with kids and answerers listener questions. The podcast address everything from vaccinations, tooth fairy, potty training, bow legged toddlers, and much much more. If you are a parent this is a must listen. The podcast has a blog written by Dr. Mike's wife, Karen.

What are ways that you reward good blogs or good blog post? I found this article on the blog, Coming to a Nursery Near You, that addresses this question:

Active Rewards

  1. Post a comment.
  2. Stumble the post, or submit it to other social media like Technorati and Digg.
  3. Click a Pay Per Click Ad. (That catches your interest)
  4. Mention the post in your own blog and link to it.
  5. Drop an Entrecard on it. (Lame, but they pay me to mention Entrecard)
  6. Buy something using one of their affiliate links
  7. Donate money to the author through paypal. (It happened once to me!)

Passive Rewards

  1. Sign up for the site’s RSS feed or Mailing list.
  2. Install the Alexa toolbar for Internet Explorer, Sparky or SearchStatus plugins for Firefox (This benefits everyone you visit, including yourself)
  3. Bookmark their Google search link so they get credit when you search.
  4. Bookmark the site, so you visit in the future.

  • Well, you just knew that the Giants Super Bowl upset of the Patriots would bring the loonies out of the woodwork, sending really idiotic letters to the New York papers. I saw two letters in today's "Sound Off" sports feedback column in the New York Post that are true beauties. Check these out:

What Be Your Nerd Type? Your Result: Literature Nerd

Does sitting by a nice cozy fire, with a cup of hot tea/chocolate, and a book you can read for hours even when your eyes grow red and dry and you look sort of scary sitting there with your insomniac appearance? Then you fit this category perfectly! You love the power of the written word and it's eloquence; and you may like to read/write poetry or novels. You contribute to the smart people of today's society, however you can probably be overly-critical of works.

    It's okay. I understand.

I discovered that I already have books on my list that fit into this challenge. No new books added but another challenge to participate in. Sounds good to me!

And just for fun I took this quiz that I have seen bobbing around the book blogs. Here are my results:

Meanwhile, food banks are seeing gigantic increases in need this year, with demand up as much as 40 percent.

  • Excellent post on Business Pundit earlier this month:

Grossing over $150,000,000 in its first two weekends at the box office, “Iron Man” has come out of the gates as one of the top blockbusters of the year. If you haven’t seen it – believe the hype. Bar none it is the best ‘hero’ movie I’ve seen.

  • Ever stumble over something while web surfing and think, "Oh cool! I've never seen anything like this on the internet" only to find out you're the last person on the planet who hasn't heard of it.

Here are some of the things recently discovered by me and of course I have to share with you. Kinda like Columbus 'finding' America, they've already been discovered by thousands of people. It's my blog; I'm planting a flag in these:

My Live Signature: (Above)I could spend hours making these. (Yes, I'm that vain.) Try experimenting to find your best autograph for when you're rich and famous.

Esty: Drool over what the creative people are making. I wish I had that kind of talent.

sk*rt: Interesting stuff on the internet rated by women. If you have a profile, friend me. I'm, guess what, chrisbookarama.

  • Yep. A snow day. School was cancelled so the kid headed for outside. The wind was wicked but, as you can see, she was well covered. It takes more than a couple of inches of snow and howling wind to stop the fun around here.

  • Our little rambunctious baby made it very difficult to see if he was a boy or not. After some nudging from the tech the baby finally moved enough to let us a have a good look. Baby is currently in the breach position and is all arms and legs. He is a little on the big side, but considering his daddy is 6'4 that comes as little surprise.

Here is a little picture of our boy wonder:

  • day today. I wrote one ad, which I'm sure my boss will rewrite, then spent about an hour trying to write website copy with absolutely nothing to go on, then another hour being mad at the situation. Then I gave up and did some online window shopping and blog reading and walked to the bathroom every hour even if I didn't have to go. It could quite possible have been "the longest day in history."

  • If you read a bunch of blogs, you know that there are about a gazillion out there and no easy way to figure out which ones are good and which ones stink. Part of the reason I started this blog was that, after a thorough search of the blogosphere, I just couldn't find a blog that reviewed Rachael Ray's recipes and provided news on what she was up to.

So how are you supposed to find the good ones? You can use Technorati or Google's blog search, but you'll have no idea if the blog is any good or if it's just a splog (spam blog).

  • Ah, viral and buzz marketing. Good stuff. Remember the personalized phone messages Samuel Jackson sent out to your friends' cellphones to let them know about Snakes On A Plane two years ago? Well get ready, because The Dark Knight is taking their guerilla/buzz marketing campaign a few steps further.

    Pure genius.

  • I would like to reward my faithful readers. I will be posting a short survey to see how well you all know me. The two people that get the most answers right will win a book. If there is a tie then three people will get something.

Stay tuned for more information on the contest...

    NewTeeVee writes
today about UNDER THE ARCHES, a "reality" show that began as a series
of short videos online and is now being turned into a "pilot" by a
    company called Madwood Entertainment.

NYU student Sean Patrick Murray, who created the show, describes it on Facebook as "8 college kids in NYC, the real "Gossip Girl."  You can see the 7-minute pilot there or get a taste here
on the Gawker post, which described the show as "reality schtick -
[all] about the fast-moving-cloud shots, the angsty Z-100 soundtrack
and the whiny blond chicks" and creator Murray as "either a complete
    genius or a total tool."

  • From the moment the word got out yesterday that the Red Sox were letting Doug Mirabelli go, my Site Meter numbers started soaring. The end of the Mirabelli Era in Boston was great for this site, as Red Sox fans around the country (and especially in New England) wanted to relive the humorous post about Doug being a stuck-up, pain-in-the-ass narcissist.

And my thanks to the fine Red Sox sites Surviving Grady and Red Sox Chick who put up links to the July 2006 post.
I had over 400 hits to my site on Thursday, which is doubled what I get on a normal day. I guess the Red Sox should release Doug more often.

We also had a ton of hits from a picture of Clay Buchholz I posted here last September. I'm not exactly sure the reason why, as most readers found it off a Google Image search.

I'm pretty sure Clay isn't going anywhere. Right?
