Busy Weekends this month

November 2-4
We have a really busy weekend ahead of us. Tomorrow we are going to the charity garage sale put on by the Settlement Home for children. For those of you have been reading me for awhile, this is the yearly sale I go to that I usually come home with 30-40 books by the end of the weekend. Click here to see what I got last year on Saturday and here for what I got on the Sunday box day. I am also hoping that this year I can get some cool baby gear. After the sale we are going to a Halloween party at our friends house. They live pretty far away so it should be a fun little adventure trying to find their house (google maps doesn't like their neighborhood). We might leave early and shop along the way. Sunday we have church in the morning. Then at 3pm we go back to the Charity Garage Sale and buy a box to stuff with more stuff. This is the one thing that I look forward to every year. My husband usually gets all his game pieces he needs for the year to make his proto types and I fill my bookshelves.

November 9-11
I have to go to San Antonio for a work conference with my boss.

November 15-18
Thursday through Sunday is Board Game Geek Con.

November 22-25
Thanksgiving! We have decided to host Thanksgiving this year for all of our friends who aren't going home to their families. The next weekend is the first weekend of December and we will be having our book club!

I also have two doctors appointments, a major fundraiser for my work, a grant coming out, two grant trainings and a couple of internal audit meetings that I have to lead. Needless to say I will be a little stressed out.
500th post!!! Woohoo!!!

  • I saw this meme at Fraternity of Dreamers. It's a weird one but it'll give you an interesting view of my world:

What kind of soap is in your shower right now? Ivory Body Wash and Dove Bar Soap (with the little nibblets in it).

Do you have any watermelon in your refrigerator? No but I do have a Pomelo.

Here are my choices for the awards and the days they will be announced:

Nov. 12: AL Rookie of the Year: Dustin Pedroia
NL Rookie of the Year: Ryan Braun

  • In this week I could manage to review only one book, that too a Tintin one, The Lake of Sharks. Comic books take less time to read and review. A new house entails a lot of work. Although I am nicely enconsed in my new home, all those paperwork for banks etc has to be completed. In India, nothing gets done by telephone or the internet. One has to go there and get things done.

  • I found this meme posted at A Fraternity of Dreamers. Kookie had such fun answers that she inspired me to give it a shot. Here goes:

What kind of soap is in your shower right now?
    Ivory(DH), B&BW Rice Flower& Shea(Me), B&BW Exotic Coconut(DD),
    Old Spice Red Zone(Sons)

Do you have any watermelon in your refrigerator? No

  • I was tagged by Melody for this fun meme.

The rules of this particular meme are:

1). Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages)
2). Open the book to page 123
    3). Find the fifth sentence
4). Post the next three sentences
    5). Tag five people

  • Can someone, anyone out there, please tell me how it can already be the month of March?
No, seriously, though. In a matter of hours, it will be MARCH!
    March?
What the hell happened to February?
Am I going senile? Did I sleep through January or something?
Even with the extra day here, the 29th, I’m sorry, but something seems mightily askew!
Why does it feel like I was just back home not so long ago, for Christmas?
Is this just a classic symptom of old age?
Is the rest of this year going to be just as fleeting?
According to Robert Frost… perhaps…. perhaps it is!

  • It is a happy day for my little family since we are finally settling with the insurance company and will be able to buy a new car! Woohoo!! All is going well with us. We have family coming in this week and then the BIG baby shower with friends on Saturday. Today I am answering my works hotline and trying to get the house in order for our guest. Our last birthing class is this week as well. Busy, busy!

Addendum: The wonderful, honorable and esteemed Kathy (of the cousin variety) will be gracing me with her most glorious presence on Friday.

  • I am sitting at Starbucks and just randomly thinking, as I sometimes do.
I am still slogging through a couple of non-fiction books, and just took a break from that to read a bit of the Nick Adams stories by Ernest Hemingway.
Just chillin’ out after a long day at work.
In this lull of a moment, while getting another coffee, three horrendously deep philosophically challenging scenarios have sprung unbidden into my mind, and I pose them to you…

    #1.
You are wandering around in a blind fog and you are starving to death. Literally, you could almost die. Then the fog lifts, to reveal the following three equi-distant buildings. To which of these would you mostly likely drag yourself?

    a) McDonalds.

  • So, we had a garage sale yesterday. And by we, I don't mean Birdmonster, although Zach was there with me, waking up far too early on a Sunday morning, drinking Tecate far too early on a Sunday afternoon, and passing out with my clothes on far too early on a Sunday night. Still, spending a sun soaked weekend hawking your old shoes, your unwanted VHS tapes*, and that one chair that smells like a flatulent Grandma is, in my opinion, a good weekend.

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

    November 16, 2007

  • I have been so busy lately that I haven't really sat and watched the weather so this mornings downpour took me by surprise. Since it was early I am sure there was some old man out there snoring as well. I slept like a rock last night. I have found that if I start sleeping sitting up that I sleep best. I end up on my side sometime in the middle of the night. The new bed is really nice. All it needs now is some nice cushy pillows to go with it.

    Book News:
With my increased appetite for food my appetite for books is slowly returning as well. Yesterday I finished Bel Canto and am now half way through The Color Purple.

    Bel Canto Short Review:

  • Well, here I am on the final leg of my holidays.
Still visiting. Still having fun. Still eating.
But come Monday, it is back to the coal mines for me. Tomorrow I will be boarding a plane and flying back home. Back to my meowing Jack, and the snowbanks I left behind in Ottawa.
At the end of each year I like to reflect upon the books I have read over the past 12 months. I reminisce about each one and see which come to the forefront as being especially memorable and worthwhile.

  • I have listed the Nobel Laureates and their books I have read so far. I have not reviewed all of those on my blog as I read a few, long time back. If I do, I will link those here. I am in the process of reading another book by Steinbeck, three by Marquez and one by Orhan Pamuk.

    1907 - Rudyard Kipling
    Jungle Book

  • What new books are you looking forward to most in 2008? Something new being published this year? Something you got as a gift for the holidays? Anything in particular that you’re planning to read in 2008 that you’re looking forward to? A classic, or maybe a best-seller from 2007 that you’re waiting to appear in paperback?

  • Hello, friends.
Coming to you live here, amid the racket of simulated gunfire in this Internet cafe!
[At least I HOPE it's simulated!]
How can people play video-games all night long?
    It mystifies me.
But then again, I'm sure they would all ask me... "How can you read so much?"
Speaking of which, that is what I did tonight... sat at a Starbucks and drank a pail of coffee while reading a terrific book.
I wish I could at least post the image here but I am on a remote computer and cannot re-size photos and stuff.
I'm really enjoying John Irving's, A Widow For One Year.
I find him to be a fabulously engaging storyteller. This is my third book by Irving, and I have enjoyed the other two and I know that this one is going to be great.

  • Just wondering…
Have you ever gotten involved with a book like for instance
