appraisal for Chinese porcelain figure

appraisal for Chinese porcelain figure

Connie asks:

I just happened upon your website today and was very excited to find a way to get a quick appraisal without even leaving home.
I have today, purchased from an estate auction in Arkansas, this very unusual Porcelain Figurine of a Monkey, wearing a British type wig and clothing, riding atop another Monkey and playing some type of small piano. There is much crazing but no chips or cracks that I have found. The figurine is 8 /78" tall x 6 1/8" long x 3 3/4" wide. I paid $2.50 for this figurine.
Can you please tell me what you believe this piece is worth?

AW says:

I'm always happy to hear about someone on the hunt :) Nice buy for $2.50, while this purchase won't make you rich your going in the right direction.

The mark on the base of your monkey tells me that this is no older than 20 years old. This is a very fun and interesting item, but the only real value right now lies in it's novelty and amusing theme. As you probably know most of the import goods coming from China in the last 30 years are inexpensive to manufacture thus, don't command a lot of money yet.

Keep looking for the unusual!
