  • If you read a bunch of blogs, you know that there are about a gazillion out there and no easy way to figure out which ones are good and which ones stink. Part of the reason I started this blog was that, after a thorough search of the blogosphere, I just couldn't find a blog that reviewed Rachael Ray's recipes and provided news on what she was up to.

So how are you supposed to find the good ones? You can use Technorati or Google's blog search, but you'll have no idea if the blog is any good or if it's just a splog (spam blog).

And that's because it's a blog about an exceptional person.

  • Can this really be true?

The Air Force is tightening restrictions on which blogs its troops can read, cutting off access to just about any independent site with the word "blog" in its web address. It's the latest move in a larger struggle within the military over the value -- and hazards -- of the sites. At least one senior Air Force official calls the squeeze so "utterly stupid, it makes me want to scream."
Shachtman's story on Wired suggests that there is some dispute about which blogs are actually being blocked. If any readers at Air Force bases have access to this blog, or know more about the policy, please let us know in the comments.

Of course, if you don't link to me and would like to, comment here and I'll return the favor. Book blog links should be restored soon...ish.

  • Hurrah!

I've made it onto the top 50 marketing blogs in Australia, even though I've spent much of 2008 talking about advertising to my mates rather than blogging it.

So even though my site was described by a fellow blogger as being on 'life support', I'd prefer to think of it as the Triple M of Aussie marketing blogs....not a whole lot of new stuff, but heaps of classics that go back through the years!

And no ads....just 136 blog posts IN A ROW!

Anyway, who says a blog needs to be updated every day or week. There's only so much interesting new news out there. With all the advertising theories, strategies, models, principles bla bla bla, I'm still trying to work out how to make an effective 30 second tv ad!

Thanks to Julian Cole for putting together the whole shebang.

  • From the very awesome Advergirl Blog - hat tip to Dave Armano's fierce Twittering:

Question: What blogs and books do I read to stay on top of trends?

Well, I should say that 'staying on top of trends' is a pretty relative term these days. But, to stay somewhat aware of the cool stuff in my tiny area of addiction/interest, here are my top picks:

    Blogs:

  • My time and WP was fun and educational but I have decided to move my blog back to Blogger permanently.

Moving to WP from Blogger was easy. Unfortunately, moving from WP to Blogger was not as easy. I copy/pasted all the posts to bring the blog up to date( I left out a few less relevant posts) because I don't know of any way to import my WP blog to Blogger and I don't know of any way to import the comments either.

But, you can find The Sleepy Reader here from now on.

  • Finalizando con el análisis del Informe de la Comisión Mixta de la Asamblea Nacional para la nueva Constitución venezolana, nos tropezamos con otro nuevo atropello.

  • I've spent all morning, and most of the afternoon, trying to kill time before I can get outta work! While browsing and catching up on everyone's blogs, I noticed something really strange and just had to ask....what are these strange but beautiful creatures??

I found this one on the Bookfool's blog......

  • Ever stumble over something while web surfing and think, "Oh cool! I've never seen anything like this on the internet" only to find out you're the last person on the planet who hasn't heard of it.

Here are some of the things recently discovered by me and of course I have to share with you. Kinda like Columbus 'finding' America, they've already been discovered by thousands of people. It's my blog; I'm planting a flag in these:

    My Live Signature
: (Above)I could spend hours making these. (Yes, I'm that vain.) Try experimenting to find your best autograph for when you're rich and famous.

Esty: Drool over what the creative people are making. I wish I had that kind of talent.

sk*rt: Interesting stuff on the internet rated by women. If you have a profile, friend me. I'm, guess what, chrisbookarama.

  • An interesting picture of the blog world emerges from Sarah Boxer's essay "Blogs," in the February 14 issue of the New York Review of Books, now on-line and in your mailbox. What are blogs like? A characteristic feature is bloggy writing. According to Boxer, "Bloggers thrive on fragmented attention and dole it out too....And if they can't put quite the right inflection on a sentence, they'll often use an OMG (Oh my god!) or an emoticon, e.g., a smiley face :-) or a wink ;-) or a frown :-( instead of words." How do blogs operate? "The law of the blogosphere is Hobbesian: survival of the snarkiest." What are bloggers like? "Bloggers have fouler mouths, tougher hides, and cooler thesauruses than most of the people I've read in print." They are fixated on superheroes.

  • Over at Law Librarian Blog, Joe Hodnicki has some statistical evidence about the assimilation of blogs into legal literature, as I discussed previously:

According to this estimate, blog citations in law reviews and court opinions have grown from about 70 in 2004 to over 500 in 2007 (and still counting since many law reviews have not completed their 2007 publishing cycle). I believe it is fair to say that for 2005 and 2006 blog citations probably grew exponentially on a document count basis, doubling every year.
Hodnicki speculates that the rates of increased citations will level off fairly soon, reflecting a maturation of the system.

Meanwhile, Matt Berns, a 2L at Georgetown, writes that we can't understand this phenomenon without taking into account law students, who are from a younger generation and more accepting of blogs as sources of information:
