Welcome to Thursday!

Originally uploaded by m.Lee This week is going by so fast! Monday was long but since then it has been zippy. I'm excited because tonight I am getting out with a girl friend to a local coffee show after blee is put to bed. This is a first for me in awhile. I love having her with me everywhere but when she is sleeping going out is great. And boy is she a sleep champ these days. Last night she slept twelve solid hours! We were shocked when we woke up this morning. She wasn't even grumpy, just chit chatting away with herself.

Blee is just two days off her fifth month! Wow how time flies. And more good news as my friend Heather the Gocco goddess gave birth to a beautiful baby boy on Monday. After 24 hours of labor and 3 hours of pushing! Man my five hours of labor and 13 minutes of pushing felt like hours I can't even imagine going through it that long. I don't think I would have made it, I was so exhausted.

Art is going well. Mostly drawing obsessively at the moment, and I must say that it is nice drawing for the simple pleasure of it. It doesn't always have to be a means to an end but I can just enjoy doing it. And I am so much that I started a group on Flickr called 365 Sketch to encourage others to attempt sketching daily. It is a pretty loose structured group as 365 is just the best case goal and anything in between is great too. Thanks for the tip on using a brush pen. I should have some Pitt brush pens around here somewhere to try out if they aren't dead. And maybe I will order the kind from Japan next time I make a Dick Blick order.

I will still be able to keep my shop updated daily.

I have a lot of information to go through as there were so many great suggestions. Apparently I need to get started carving some monkeys and Ron Paul along with using more metallics, bringing back monotypes, and working in black and white.

Originally uploaded by m.Lee Sewing can be very calming as it requires a lot of focus for me. So I dug around for my monotype printed and drawn bags and cut out a strip from it and then got out some thread and a needle. This time it is on an 8" x 8" gallery wrapped canvas. Once I stitched the strip to the backing woodblock print. From a woodblock print that almost worked but not quite, but I knew I wanted to keep it mostly intact like a stage for the rest of the image to come. Then I got out a brush and some gel medium and got to collaging.

Blee is five months old today. Wow does time fly when you're having uhm fun? Lack of sleep? Lack of time? Feeding constantly? ding ding ding all of the above.

    Do you sketch? Often?

Do you like to keep a notebook and pen handy at all times in case an image flashes behind your eyes? Lest you lose it forever.

But don't be sad I will still be around but I just need to give myself some more time off the computer and away from the constant creative pressure that I put myself under. It can be quite overwhelming. And since we are going away to Ohio for a funeral in two weeks anyhow I figured I might as well take the whole month off.

I will try to blog once a week, keep my shop up to date and even continue to sketch. But mostly this month is about enjoying nature with my daughter, sitting down and reading (and finishing) a book for the first time since becoming a mother and playing some silly video games like Mario Kart for the Wii.

I'll be a quiet presence while I take this month to regroup and hopefully re-cooperate from a bunch of emotional setbacks. Mmmmm I can smell the flowers already.

In case you missed it yesterday I am running a Studio Sale in my Etsy Shop in honor of spring cleaning. Clean up my studio and clean up my shop to make room for new pieces like this one and of course plenty of collages and other fresh goodies. Nothing is over $50 so if you have been coveting a piece for awhile it is worth checking out.

I've been sketching daily using the Wacom tablet every day. My goal obsessed brain needs to turn this into some sort of goal to suck out the fun and I am fighting that urge. But I am going to do thirty of them. They don't have to be one a day every day. But I want thirty by the end of June! Some days I will need to double up because I am going to be out of town for five days this month and won't have my tablet with me, nor will I have the time regardless.

I'm trying not to get hung up on the quality of them and just enjoy the time to doodle for fun.

I did a drawing for the 365 Sketch, but I really disliked it and couldn't bring myself to photograph it. I know that it is about the act of drawing not making masterpieces each time. But the camera battery was still being charged and this drawing just didn't feel worth the effort. Sorry!

It is rainy and grey today so I am not sure what we are to do. It isn't super cold so as long as it stops raining a bit we will go for a short walk. Our walks are important to us.

I might end up putting him in the carrier and pushing him in the stroller while I where blee down to the vet today. Good times. I also need to call a woman about pet sitting next month while we go to a funeral in Ohio.

But if I have some time I will use it to print and not jerk around and waste time. I still have a bunch of paper printed in various stages of completion. And while I have a fair amount of work from last week I would like to have more, in different colors.

I'm tired, so very tired. And I am sick with a cold round two just after recovering.

I was waiting to write the perfect post about what went into this piece but life just kept pushing it aside. Now nearly a week later and it still hasn't been written. But I love this piece too much to ignore it and not share it here in my blog. So much of myself went into the creation. Images taken from various sketches, block printing, gocco, collage and even some drawing and painting all dancing together on the stage of the canvas. They work together to hopefully create a vibrant and complex yet well balanced piece. Collage challenges me in a totally new way.

Originally uploaded by mlee.etsy.comI don't take what I would call exciting photos during my nature walks. I take snapshots of things that catch my eye, usually with the camera from my phone as it is a decent camera and is simple to use while wearing a baby!

I take in the images and then go through them later looking at the colors, shapes and general ideas for work. Here are some of my quick snapshots from today. I didn't have a lot of time to stop and gaze at the flowers because we were on our way to see the pediatrician for blee's nine month visit but I caught a handful of interesting images.

I like how this flower is growing in a tiny yard behind a fence so almost nobody can enjoy it unless they look for it like I did. I like seeing the dug up lawn with what looks like a Maple tree sapling springing out of the ground. And then there are the gorgeous colors all around.

Things are okay. My friends surgery went alright. No miracles but no disasters either. Honestly I am still in shock by it all as it unfolds I can't believe it is happening.

We had decent weather and it is looking like good weather for the rest of the week and I am going to focus on that.

Here is my first attempt at digital art that I think is work showing. Selling? No way. Printing out and displaying? Certainly not! But it is worth showing that I am indeed making progress with my new digital tablet. This is actually from a sketch that I have had for years but never got to turning into a print as it would take a lot more time than this.

This took me around ten minutes. Well, fifteen if you include me digging through old sketches looking for it.

I'm hoping for a good weekend. Planning on getting out and getting my nose repierced, an idea I have been toying with for ages. I did it myself when I was fifteen and then removed it for the parents of my now husband. I regret it. Just a little stud not a ring, rings don't suit me.
