Taking it easy Monday

Misery is a Butterfly
Originally uploaded by m.Lee Well not totally, but after the full weekend we had we aren't going anywhere tonight. We have stuff for food and Veronica Mars season 1 on DVD to watch so we aren't budging.

So far the show is pretty good, but there are certainly some holes here and there that I pick up on. And some of the cheesy is good, some not so good. Through the flashbacks it doesn't seem like she got a personality until her life got totally turned upside down. She got that and a haircut.

Between seeing friends, a mouse in our bathroom, church, picking up a replacement bouncy chair that I wish was for me and running far too many errands all three of us came home exhausted on both Saturday and Sunday. blee has been to her first noisy bar. She slept in her carseat on the floor the entire time we were there, it wasn't too long but it was impressive. Of course as soon as we got away from all the noise and were leaving that is when she woke up.

I've figured out slinging and both of us are loving it. At this time the adjustable fleece pouch is the one for us. I just slide her into it, put a hat on her and go for walks. She comes back totally asleep. And after car trips I give dad's back a break by picking her up and carrying her home in the sling instead of him dragging in the infant seat. She loves it and so does my back.

I'm going to do some light studio cleaning as I finish my coffee then do some carving. I'm working on another good sized block, the other side of the "crazy block" actually. It is a very loose unplanned piece.

Have a great Monday!

I started feeling bad with a sore throat on Tuesday night, but I pushed on and ignored it because I had a new desk to set up and a studio to re-organize.

And I do have a wonderful and well organized work station. I also have a runny nose, headache, muscle ache, sore throat and a fever. I caught it from Jon who caught it from his dad when we saw them in New Haven. Thankfully the only hint of it in blee has been a slight cough. She's behind me right now in her bouncy chair inspecting one of her toys.

This reminds me a lot of last years three month illness, but thankfully without the throwing up.

But it could be more productive. Like right now instead of being at the computer blogging I could be finishing up cleaning my studio so I can do two things.

I hope everybody had a great weekend, ours went pretty well over all.

Jon's birthday was this weekend, and it was a good one I think despite Saturday being pretty hard on him. Sunday made up for it.

The weekend went a lot better than expected and we owe it all to little blee and her perfect behavior on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday daddy had to go into work at 4am and was there until two in the afternoon so it was just us girls. She was pretty easy going already and I had just mastered back carries in our new Mei Tai so we went on what turned out to be a two hour nap. She slept the entire time.

I love having her with me everywhere but when she is sleeping going out is great. And boy is she a sleep champ these days. Last night she slept twelve solid hours! We were shocked when we woke up this morning. She wasn't even grumpy, just chit chatting away with herself.

This longhair with a baby just isn't working out. I'm shedding like crazy and having to pull it back in a ponytail or pigtails all the time isn't helping as hairs get tangled in the tangle free bands. blee also is fond of pulling on it. It is just too difficult. I miss how my hair was when I was pregnant. Now it just feels ratty.

This piece was made for the class I took at Mass Art called "Print into Books" taught by the inspiring Annie Silverman. She's a printmaking not a bookbinder and the book part was a bit of an afterthought. And I am cool with that because she and that class changed my life.

I'm tired, so very tired. And I am sick with a cold round two just after recovering.

I was waiting to write the perfect post about what went into this piece but life just kept pushing it aside. Now nearly a week later and it still hasn't been written. But I love this piece too much to ignore it and not share it here in my blog. So much of myself went into the creation. Images taken from various sketches, block printing, gocco, collage and even some drawing and painting all dancing together on the stage of the canvas. They work together to hopefully create a vibrant and complex yet well balanced piece. Collage challenges me in a totally new way.

I am really feeling the stress. I am going to try and take these moments to finish up a carving.

Things are okay. My friends surgery went alright. No miracles but no disasters either. Honestly I am still in shock by it all as it unfolds I can't believe it is happening.

We had decent weather and it is looking like good weather for the rest of the week and I am going to focus on that.

I have a lot of information to go through as there were so many great suggestions. Apparently I need to get started carving some monkeys and Ron Paul along with using more metallics, bringing back monotypes, and working in black and white.

But I am too chicken to bike here much.
