Wednesday Already?

New work made and more coming when I have the chance to make it. After getting hooked on the washi I was given yesterday I went and ordered a bunch of samples. Over 20 designs coming my way to play with! I'm also playing around with gold leaf. So far it isn't working with my typical japanese paper because of the adhesive but I have some Rives that I can try it with.

I'm very busy. I need to contact the woman who cleans our house and give her T directions here so this time she might actually show up. She has already been a no show twice but I am giving her one last chance because I don't have time to find a replacement. She has a 50% attendance rate, not good. Getting caught in traffic, giving up and going home and not calling until an hour and a half after you were supposed to show up is not cool.

But hey she saved us some money! And the house got Trashed two days later during Thanksgiving anyhow. She can deal with that aftermath now instead of us.

The weather is beautiful in Boston. Yesterday afternoon I put on my coat, put on the fleece sling, put on my blee and went out walking with her and the dog. She was comfy but I learned winter coat + fleece strap around body + warm baby = hot momma! I was sweating by the time I got home and if we still had an air conditioner installed I would have stood in front of it for a few minutes.

I meant to post this hours ago, but I got a call and had to rush to the midwife for my checkup two days early. Well, I didn't have to as I was doing them a favor because they are over booked on Friday but I am nice (and it is supposed to be cold and possibly snow on Friday). Today on the other hand was beautiful, just like yesterday.

Winter is extra rough here since we do a lot more walking than in much of the rest of the US. Even if you drive places and that is something to be avoided in many cases you often can't park all the close and need to walk. The best ways to get around Boston are bike, foot, T then car. But I am too chicken to bike here much.

Luckily for my art my feet hurt a bit from all the walking I've been doing and my new comfy shoes won't be here until Monday at the earliest.

I hope everybody enjoys their Friday and their weekends. I think we will go walking around an area we are interested in moving to in a couple of years. There used to be a very cute toy store around there.

Things aren't so good. My friend's illness is not getting better and my cat seems to have a problem with his eyes and I need to call the vet today. I might end up putting him in the carrier and pushing him in the stroller while I where blee down to the vet today. Good times. I also need to call a woman about pet sitting next month while we go to a funeral in Ohio.

But if I have some time I will use it to print and not jerk around and waste time. I still have a bunch of paper printed in various stages of completion. And while I have a fair amount of work from last week I would like to have more, in different colors.

This piece was made for the class I took at Mass Art called "Print into Books" taught by the inspiring Annie Silverman. She's a printmaking not a bookbinder and the book part was a bit of an afterthought. And I am cool with that because she and that class changed my life.

I started feeling bad with a sore throat on Tuesday night, but I pushed on and ignored it because I had a new desk to set up and a studio to re-organize.

And I do have a wonderful and well organized work station. I also have a runny nose, headache, muscle ache, sore throat and a fever. I caught it from Jon who caught it from his dad when we saw them in New Haven. Thankfully the only hint of it in blee has been a slight cough. She's behind me right now in her bouncy chair inspecting one of her toys.

This reminds me a lot of last years three month illness, but thankfully without the throwing up.

But I had a chunk of time and was in the mood so I made about ten prints. Not a lot for me but it was what I was feeling. The peacock is my favorite.

I love having her with me everywhere but when she is sleeping going out is great. And boy is she a sleep champ these days. Last night she slept twelve solid hours! We were shocked when we woke up this morning. She wasn't even grumpy, just chit chatting away with herself.

I hope everybody had a great weekend, ours went pretty well over all.

Jon's birthday was this weekend, and it was a good one I think despite Saturday being pretty hard on him. Sunday made up for it.

The weekend went a lot better than expected and we owe it all to little blee and her perfect behavior on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday daddy had to go into work at 4am and was there until two in the afternoon so it was just us girls. She was pretty easy going already and I had just mastered back carries in our new Mei Tai so we went on what turned out to be a two hour nap. She slept the entire time.

I take in the images and then go through them later looking at the colors, shapes and general ideas for work. Here are some of my quick snapshots from today. I didn't have a lot of time to stop and gaze at the flowers because we were on our way to see the pediatrician for blee's nine month visit but I caught a handful of interesting images.

I like how this flower is growing in a tiny yard behind a fence so almost nobody can enjoy it unless they look for it like I did. I like seeing the dug up lawn with what looks like a Maple tree sapling springing out of the ground. And then there are the gorgeous colors all around.

I have a lot of information to go through as there were so many great suggestions. Apparently I need to get started carving some monkeys and Ron Paul along with using more metallics, bringing back monotypes, and working in black and white.

This was my first mother's day, even though last year while I was pregnant I did get a mother's day blessing from a gas station clerk while driving back from Brooklyn.

It started on Thursday when Jon surprised me with this incredible bouquet of fruit flowers. He told me later that he basically could have had the whole thing dipped in chocolate for an additional fee if he had clicked a button but I am glad that he didn't. There were more than enough chocolate dipped strawberries to keep me happy for days. Yum!
